I use Scrivener to write.

It's not the only tool, but it's central. (See Tools for the whole story.)

Scrivener has a Corkboard feature where you can pin cards with the various beats, and reshuffle them (if necessary). Mostly, I spend bunches of time tweaking the lead lines and summaries and character details. Bunches.

I had a card in the WIP that said "Boss Bottle". Working on characters and stakes and the action for this and jotting down various ideas.

This morning I noticed the spelling error and had a quiet laugh.

An MC in the previous book of this series (being queried right now) had a character who's bad choices leave them with a growing alcohol habit.

The MC's in the WIP are less problematic drinkers. They still make bad choices, but that's because they're on a quest for something that doesn't really exist. After 50,000 words, they should be able to recognize the futility of what they started doing, and the wisdom of changing course.

However. "Boss Bottle" is inspiring. I think the Antagonist may become an even larger jerk than they already are. Or maybe the Antagonist's #1 will be a serious drunk. It's an important side-bar: the baddies know they're the baddies but have elaborately coded "ends justify the means" self-delusions they repeat to each other.
