I just wrote a scene where the hero made a coherent, workable plan.
Ugh.
872 words wasted.
Well... Perhaps not completely “wasted.” It can be set aside into another Scrivener folder as a kind of meditation on what the hero wishes might happen.
None of it can happen, however, because where’s the drama in that?
About 400 words established a context and conveyed some exposition. The rest has to go.
It must be replaced with the bad guy’s minor characters doing something particularly bad. And unexpected by the hero. Something which sets up the “ultimate boon” for this hero’s journey.
I have to be careful of my target of under 10,000 words total, and not wander off into long-form multi-chapter novel-ish writing. A lot could go on.
