The lure of non-fiction is two-fold:
- It pays.
- It has boundaries.
The "boundary" issue was a blinding revelation for me.
The goals are narrow: explain some feature of a programming language. The available techniques are metaphorical hand-waving and concrete examples. The examples must actually work.
It's pretty simple, and easy to know if the writing "works". It's technically correct and covers the material.
Fiction boundaries are very mushy. This can be frustrating for new authors. How far can I go? What's acceptable?
I need to find a writer's group and some beta readers (again).
First, I want to finish a draft of my #western #horror book. I'm past a mental roadblock caused by (a) writing non-fiction, and (b) writing more non-fiction.
